Boring & Overpriced!
by glolilly

I have eaten there on two or three occasions and that's been about 7 months ago and I now pass by this resturant like it doesn't exist. First the doorway is confusing to find, secondly the inside lighting is very dark and thirdly the food is always the same choices of all you can eat iceberg salad, green beans, corn and predetermined amount of meat for a ridiculously amount of money per person. The seating is awkward in close quarters of wobbly seat and tables with high schoolers singing as you eat. Not for me because now I can go to Furr's down the street.

Mystified as to what is the big deal...

I cannot for the life of me figure out why the Babe's chain gets high ratings from professional food critics, such as those at the DMN.

Entrees are good. Salad is just iceberg lettuce with a sugar and vinegar dressing. Creamed corn and green beans are straight out of the can, perhaps with a bit of pepper added. Mashed potatoes are instant, and yes, I asked a manager who confirmed that they were "reconstituted dried potatoes." Biscuits were good but clearly a buttermilk baking mix such as Bisquick.

I consider Babe's to be a Southern version of Golden Corral - a place to fill up but nothing of dining importance. The fact that they are listed on DMN's list of best Southern food in the DFW area is unthinkable.

Eating at Babes
by trend329
on March 28, 2011
I had the opportunity to eat at Babe's Restaurant this past weekend with family. It was a pleasant, clean, and very friendly atmosphere. When one vegetable bowl was empty they were always there with another. Tea glasses were always filled promptly. I couldn't have asked for better service. However, I gave them 3 stars because I was a little disappointed in my fried fish. Every restaurant has an off night, so I'll give them the benefit and will probably also give them another chance.
